Felting Workshops
for beginners
Felted Necklace
We will make lots of felted strings and beads using various techniques with hand-dyed wool based on our design ideas. All materials are provided by the instructor as well as tiny glass beads and metal sequins available for further embellishment.

Silk and Wool Scarf
Most Popular
Participants will make scarves by combining silk fabric and wool fibers. In the felting process, wool will migrate through the silk fabric, shrink after much agitation and make a strong, but lightweight felted fabric. Expect a bit of physical work and standing on your feet, but no previous experience is necessary. All materials are dyed and provided by instructor.

Vessels and Bowls
In this class we will create seamless 3D felt. Using plastic or cardboard as a resist to separate the layers of wool, we’ll start with a simple round shape to understand the process of layering fibers. Then, we will create the surface design with silk fibers and sheer silk fabric pieces as well as adding on extensions or cutting into the material. At the final shaping, we will stretch the felt and use binder clips to give it a totally different look.

Intermediate & Advanced
Rugs & Chair
Cushions
Participants get to try out their ideas in the form of a 12" x 12" chair cushion first and increase the scale to make a rug approximately 3' x 4' in size. Participants also have the option to stay with the chair cushion size and make three or more of those. Either way, this class requires more time and more stamina. All materials are hand-dyed and provided by the instructor.

Duration of Class: 10-12 hours (2-day workshop)
Small Bags
By using either plastic or cardboard for resistance material, it’s possible to create a seamless 3D shape. This approximately 7" x 10" felted bag will come with a felted shoulder strap as well. Merino wool fibers will serve as our base and sheer silk fabric or silk hankies as embellishment. All materials are hand-dyed and provided by the instructor.

Hats
Participants will choose from three basic shapes, with or without a brim and beret. The technique is the same as with bags and vessels, but these will be bigger to fit one’s head! Silk hankies and silk fabric in various colors and patterns available for embellishment. All materials are hand-dyed and provided by the instructor.
